Common history shows us the non-violent overcoming of borders between people and states as core of the European identity. To be European means approaching each other, communicating with each other and finding joint solutions.
The ideology of the national state has often been instrumentalized in order to erect artificial walls in the minds and hearts of the people and to justify violence. However, being European means to overcome these internal as well as external borders peacefully.
